I decided to create a list of romantic movies that I have viewed in the past. I thought this would be helpful for those nights where you and your special someone are trying to decide what to watch and wish to get really close. For each movie I will include the title (obviously I won’t make you guess it), a brief description of what the movie is about, and what I thought. I hope you enjoy.
P.S. I Love You
I saw this movie in theatres when it first came out with a girl I had just started to date. The movie is about a woman by the name of Holly and her Irish husband Gerry. Gerry passes away and Holly is destroyed but the loss of her husband. However, he did not leave her alone. Gerry left a trail of letters and clues for her to follow. Though the movie starts with the death of Gerry it does a great job showing the viewer how they met, what their relationship was like, and so much more. There is tons of romance in this movie and I found the whole letter trail idea a great romantic idea for a special occasion as well. The story line was great and the actors were just as good. Plus it didnt hurt that Gerry was played by Gerard Butler. Although he dies in the beginning, his irish voice simply makes the movie. I found that some parts of the movie are a little too cliche, a bit too convenient, or just not memorable. All the same, it is a movie worth watching
Stardust
Now I know this isnt the first movie that comes to mind when the words romantic movie or chick flick are mentioned but after viewing this movie, I strongly feel that it should be. Personally, this is one of my favourite movies PERIOD! The movie takes place in a fictional world and is about a young man’s quest for a fallen star as he plans to bring back the star to win the hand of a woman. However, along the way, he comes across unicorns, witches, princes, and even sky pirates. ROBERT DI NIRO PLAYS A GAY SKY PIRATE! Along the way, he learns stuff about his past and about himself and his true love. As I said before, this is my FAVOURITE movie period! But with this blog being about romance, the movie has romantic aspects to it.
A Lot Like Heaven
This is a classic romance movie. In it the main character played by Reese Witherspoon is a workaholic and doesn’t really have a romance life. She then gets in an accident and is put into a coma. Time passes and a man moves into her place and starts seeing her … however .. only he can see her. With his help, they try to figure out what happened to her and why only he can see her. This movie is hilarious, romantic, and very well done. I will admit there are one or two parts that are extreme fromage but other than that … it is now my favourite chick flick to watch with particular females. I highly recommend this movie for in-home movie nights.
Serendipity
I saw this movie a long time ago when I was dating an ex of mine. This actually became our movie and every time I watch this movie, I am reminded of her. Don’t worry, she is amazing and we both are still very close so it is not a bad thing that I am reminded of her … anywho on to the movie. The premise behind this entire movie is in the title. The word serendipity generally means a random happenstance which has a good result or desirable result. Kate Beckinsale and John Cusack are the main actors in this movie and in it, they meet during a night of Christmas shopping. They both go after the same pair of gloves for their own loved ones and end up spending most of the remainder of the night chatting, laughing, skating, and such. But come the end of the night, John Cusack thinks that it was fate that they met. In order to test this theory, Kate Beckinsale’s character sets in motion a couple events that give story to the rest of the movie. The whole movie is about fate and how if two people were meant to be, the world will bring the two together, no matter where they are. I use to love this movie a lot and I still do to a certain extent but like any movie, it tends to loose its luster after the 20th viewing or so. As far as romance go, the extent at which this movie takes the whole fate thing is kind of stretching reality but I am willing to accept it because the movie is decent and Kate Beckinsale is hot. It is a typical romance movie and although whether you have been dating someone for a week or a year it is a good romance movie, I recommend that you watch it with someone that you know means something special to you. I believe that this movie is more for the couples that are in love and not just dating for the first time due to the fact that it is definitely a movie to cudle up with your loved one and whisper sweet nothings into her ear while you watch it.
Hitch
I believe that every man should have to watch this movie. I mean there are other movies on my list of must watch like Casablanca, Kingdom of Heaven, etc. This movie covers a lot of things that I have been trying to tell buddies of mine ever since I started dating and it does it very well I might add. Will Smith plays a character named Hitch whose career is helping men get the women of their dreams. Now before the flood of comments from women flow in about how he teaches men how to sleep with women or that the movie displays women as easily manipulated, Hitch helps men get out of their own way so that they can find the girl of their dreams. This movie is amazing. That’s all I can really say about it. Some people say that the acting isn’t great or that the plot line is mediocre. I personally disagree but the point of the matter is that it teaches and talks about parts of relationships and dating that should be common sense but for some reason aren’t. I highly recommend … nay … I demand that if you are a male that you see this movie. What are you still reading this for … GO! GET IT! WATCH IT!
I will update the list as I remember more movies or see them but feel free to leave comments with movies that you think would be great additions to the list. Hope you enjoy and once again, feel free to suggest additions.
Loved the ratings.
I give them 4 romance-inspired fancy-pants stars out of 5.
“A Lot Like Love,” (2005).
I remember seeing A Lot Like Love once and I don’t really remember enough of it to do an honest review. If you would like to put a review up feel free to or I will try to get my hands on it and give it a watch.
